The Light of the World – John 8:1-20

Think about being in darkness. It’s hard to move, to walk. You stumble into things, trip and fall. Your fears are exaggerated. Shadows become threats. You don’t know what is in the darkness with you. You find it hard to know what is real and what is imagination. In the light, you see reality clearly. You see which way to walk. You see and avoid obstacles. You don’t see dangers in every shadow. Those fears are gone because you can see what is there and what isn’t. Jesus said He is the “light of the world.” Through Him, we can see the nature of reality clearly. Jesus doesn’t just enlighten our spirits and minds, he saves us from the fearful gloom of living in darkness and stumbling around without Him. Through Jesus, we come into the joy and light of life.

We should not only rejoice and praise Him for allowing us to “have the light of life,” we should be motivated to share that light with those who are still living in darkness and fear. Our mission is to share the light that we’ve been given.

Who do you know who is still living in darkness? Pray about how you can lead them to the light of Christ. Make a commitment to reach out to them this week.
