Word of Jesus’ miracles and healing had spread, and an official with a sick son came to Jesus to plead with Him to heal the boy. Jesus told him: “Go. Your son will live.” The man believed what Jesus said and left. He did not continue to insist that Jesus come with him. He believed what Jesus told him, and he did what Jesus told him. He trusted, and he obeyed. And when he got near his home, he learned that his son had been healed exactly when Jesus said so.
The official took Jesus at His word. He believed Him. He had wanted to preserve the physical life of his son, but as a result, his entire household got eternal life. We need to follow his example. Take Jesus at His word. Believe what He tells us. And do what he tells us. The results are always much better than we had hoped.
Do you take Jesus at His word? Do you believe whatever He tells you, or do you struggle with believing some of His Words? The secret is in the actions of this official and in the words of the old hymn: Trust and Obey.
