‘I am the way, the truth and the life’ – John 14:1-14

The disciples had followed Jesus. They had been taught by Jesus. They had discussed that He was the Messiah. They had even called Him Lord. But here, Jesus wanted them to take the next step, to acknowledge Him as God and to worship Him. He assured them that He was going to prepare a place for them in the Father’s house. He told them that He and the Father are one. He told them that because they had seen Him, they had seen the Father. He told them to pray in His name. And He told them: “I am the way, the truth and the life.” Jesus was not just a Messiah who would reestablish the Kingdom of David. He is God establishing His kingdom. He was not just a teacher who would give them the truth. He is the truth. He was not just a prophet who would teach them about God. He was and is God. And He was not there to teach them how to find life. He is life. He is the source and the sustainer of all life.

After Jesus told the disciples that He is the way, the truth and the life, He told them: “No one comes to the Father except through Me.” There is no other way to God. It’s not just that Jesus is the only way to gain forgiveness of sins. It’s that He is the only one who brings life. He is the only truth. Any other way leads to a false God and to death because it doesn’t lead to Jesus.

Who do you know who needs to know that Jesus is God and that He is the only source of life? Commit to reaching out to that person in love to share this truth.
