Curiosity and Compassion – John 9:1-12

Jesus and the disciples came across a man who had been born blind. The disciples’ first impulse was not to help the man, but to place blame for his condition. They assumed the blindness was a punishment for the man’s sin or his parents’ sin. We can also be too quick to blame others for the hardships they face. Jesus told them it wasn’t a matter of he or his parents’ sin but a way for God to display His glory. The disciples’ saw someone suffering and responded with a theological question. Jesus’ motivation was to help the man. He said He had to do the works of His father while the time was right, and then he healed the man of his blindness.

Our faith is more than an intellectual exercise. We aren’t called to debate spiritual questions. We are called to do the work of The Father. That means helping and serving others. We should be focused on meeting their needs, including the need to know Jesus.

Who do you know who has a need that you can help meet? How can you serve someone else this week?
