‘No man ever spoke like this’ – John 7:25-53

The people and the Jewish leaders were confused about Jesus. They couldn’t decide who He was. They debated whether He was a prophet, a deceiver or someone demon possessed. But, as Jesus spoke of the Father who sent Him, some people believed in Him. That was too much for the Jewish leaders who sent the temple police to arrest Him. They came back empty handed. They told the leaders: “No man ever spoke like this.” They weren’t just talking about His words. When Jesus was in His Father’s house, it was obvious to everyone present that He was where He should be. He spoke with an authority and a power that was undeniable. Even when He accused the Jewish leaders of not following their own law, those leaders’ employees couldn’t be forced to arrest Him. Even the temple police could see that He was more than just a man. The power and authority of God shone out from Him, and He couldn’t be stopped until He was ready.

Jesus talked about being sent by the Father, about doing the will of the Father. He told the people who He was and still is if they cared to listen. But his call to the people was to believe in Him to gain life and energy. Believe in Him and have “streams of living water flow from deep within” you.

Do you feel this life and energy from the Lord? Is your relationship with Him what powers you? If you don’t feel the living waters flowing, pray about it. Ask the Lord to fill you with His spirit and draw you closer to Him.
